Student Privacy – HB1
Governor Northam Signs Bill Protecting Student Privacy
Governor Northam signed HB1 introduced by Delegate Tony Wilt (R-Harrisonburg) to protect student privacy by prohibiting colleges and universities from releasing student directory information to third parties without the permission of the student. In the most recent Virginia21 survey, more than 80% of students and young professionals surveyed stated that third parties should not be allowed to access personal directory information. Virginia21 is committed to protecting Virginia’s students and are encouraged by the steps taken by the legislature and the administration.
