Radford University students petition city council for closer polling location

RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ) Radford's east precinct has reached its limit on registered voters and will be divided.

By adding a 4th precinct, Radford is looking for a new polling location.

Radford University is part of the east precinct. Several students are petitioning city council to create a polling location at Unity Christian Church on Tyler Avenue across the street from the university.

"I believe that moving this closer to campus will allow for better access for young people, our students to vote, as well as help local and lifelong community members," John Register, a Virginia 21 advocacy group representative and RU senior, said.

RU students will speak to city council at Tuesday's public hearing. The Radford Electoral Board will also give its recommendation to city council to create the polling place at Grove United Methodist.
