Meet Elias, our new Communications Assistant

Why did you want to work at VA21?

I met Tim, Kate, and Jared at the Summer Leadership Institute. I really liked what Virginia21 does and stands for; especially cultivating student leadership and empowering youth political engagement. Millennials need to start working now to make our voices heard and VA21 gives us that platform.

What is your most liked post on social media, and why do you think it was so successful?

Youtube isn’t as social as other forms of social media, but I have a video posted where I cut a Spongebob episode into the trailer for a horror movie. Obviously this got a lot of views because Spongebob is the stuff that memes are made of, and I think the irony of jumpscares with a talking sponge played out well.

What is your biggest pet-peeve?

People who block crowded sidewalks or hallways, some of us have places to be! And Game of Thrones spoilers.

You were in Australia recently. What was the most surprising thing you saw?

Every night the city projects a short film onto part of the Sydney Opera House retelling aboriginal stories using their traditional art style. Not only was this really cool to look at it was a nice show of respect for the people and their culture.

If you could pass any ridiculous law, what would it be and why?

I would make 3 hour lecture classes illegal, because they very well should be.

You’re about to give a major speech to a crowd of 100,000 people. What song do you listen to before you go out on stage?

All Star by Smash Mouth for two reasons: 1) it’s a pretty motivational song 2) I think it would be funny to laugh about later

If you could choose one fictional character to be your life coach, who would it be and why?

Tyrion Lannister, because he’s Tyrion Lannister.

Finally, and this is a serious one, what was one piece of advice you wish you had gotten before starting school?

Look forward- not every decision you make is gonna be your final decision and it’s fine to not have it all figured out. Just go with the flow, put yourself out there and things will work out.
